License to Win is making a tiktok!!!

I hope you guys are ready, because License to Win is making a tiktok. We'll be going into a rehearsals, performances, and tips and tricks for people who want to be in a band. You'll get to see band members Cameron O'Connor, Brice Cook, ConBro, and even Lil Weetbix.

Unfortunately, MurdoktheRokstar has left the band so you will not see him.

My Journey with Joining License to Win

My journey with License to Win has been a short one. I was invited into the band through the band leader Lil Weetbix when he saw me play piano on the street making approximately $5 an hour. He said that he's made a band called License to Win in his Cert III class and that he needs new band members because the previous band with Jossy, Leafy and Tommo broke up.

I happily accepted, was picked up off my feet, and taken to the rehearsal room.
Now, I look back on my 3 weeks at Licence to Win and it is more than just a band; but a family.

Every Friday night we play poker as a family to commemorate our band License to Win.

Gear I use for practicing

Obviously, when working in a band, one of the things that comes with it is practice, so I thought I would share what I like to use when I prepare for the best band known to the world. I like to play the Gibson SG guitar, which is mostly known for its hard rock tones used in bands like Black Sabbath and AC/DC. But also works for some nice sounding clean tones too. For the amp i use, i like the Boss Katan Mini amp. Its small and portable, and versatile as it can work cleanly with any sort of guitar.

My History With Performing

 My History With Performing

I've been given many opportunities to perform songs live throughout school, and here are all the ones I remember. The ones in bold are my personal favourites.

  - Can't Stop (lead vocals) - 2019 School Festival
  - Mr. Blue Sky (lead vocals) - 2020 Retro Concert
Solbar 2021
  - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (electric bass)
  - Sweet Home Alabama (electric bass)
  - Octopus' Garden (acoustic drum kit)
  - Down Under (lead vocals)

Aside from these, I am part of the band for the youth group I go to and am a part of my schools senior chapel band and have been given many chances to perform through both of these.

Upcoming events also include License to Win's debut performance at Solbar and performing Mr. Blue Sky again at this year's retro concert so come along to that.

How I Got Into Film Music

How I Got Into Film Music

At the moment, my dream is to write for screen, not just films either, I'm talking video games, TV shows, any of that kind of media, but film is the one I'm most keen on.

I started writing music in 2018, and I've always experimented with different styles of music, but the year 11 composition assignment challenged me to write better than I've ever written before, and film scores were the most impressive pieces I knew. Plus I love film soundtracks and how they can drastically affect a scene in any context.

I did an OK job with my first ever attempt at a film song (which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsxGAsClX4E). I did the same with the next assessment but it was significantly better than I've ever composed before (and you can find that one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lTlGk6Uw6I), and I was so proud of this song I realized that this is what I want to do for a living, and still do.

The Forming of LTW from ConBro's Perspective

The Forming of LTW from ConBro's Perspective

This is my perspective of the forming of the band 'License to Win'.

It was a normal day in Cert III music, except IT WASN'T AT ALL (dun, dun, DUUUUUNNNNNNN)

Joking it was normal lesson. The only thing that was a bit different about this lesson was that we formed a band to start learning songs to perform at Solbar. We needed a band name though. After throwing around pointless band names, one of the goons (I don't remember who), was gambling using this app on their computer, and they gave him the option of getting a 'License to Win' and it all fell into place.

If you wanna see our band perform, how about coming along to the Solbar when we're performing?

Past Band Members

Our band has been through some rough patches. Here are some past members that Licence to Win pays tribute to for their fantastic contributions to this band and its upbringing.

Tommo - Fantastic bass player

Jossy - Great lead vocalist who played in our cover of "Some Feeling" by Mild Orange.

Leaf DaBaby - Great vocalist.

Joining License to Win

Before license to win, I was quite lonely, without friends, making sad music in my sad bedroom. But then License to Win came to save me, like an angel. Suddenly I was writing the best songs known to man with the best people known to this earth. I had a new family, a new home.

NEW baby

hey guys thought ID KEEP YOU  updated, BuT i have a new baby on the way <3

also writing a new song about how much i hate it

Cool inspirational song

I have recently discovered a fantastic song, Dramaturgy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJzw1h5CR-I), by a well-known J-Pop artist E ve. The song is about having to put up personalities to fit in with the world, how stressful that can become, and how you eventually end up without a role that shows your true self, so you throughout all the acts and show yourself to the world.

I find E ve's melodies on the guitar, and how he uses his voice to convey the song's message.

The Birth of 'ConBro'

The Birth of 'ConBro'

I remember getting really into YouTube around the end of 2016. I would always be watching the same YouTubers whilst simultaneously finding new ones and just taking in all of the content. I remember seeing how much fun and how cool they were, and I wanted to be like them.

The first channel name I created was a bit of a weird journey to get there. I was reading a joke book with funny names, like someone with a goatee having the name 'Goa. T' or something dumb like that. I ended up coming up with 'Conor.B.Kool'. I thought I was real clever for this, and in hindsight I have no idea why I used a K for 'cool' but I mean, I was 11. This was my username on everything but I got bored of it real quick, so I created a new channel. But now I had to come up with a new name

The first of which was 'ConorYT' (Conor being my name and YT being short for 'YouTube'). Simple and easy, I thought it worked. I uploaded to that channel for a while but in 2018 I started to not feel so happy with what I was putting on there, and so I created a new channel.

(side note, you can find ConorYT with this link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1Tsjqg9p_Mko9zaVujwCSA)

But at this point I was so out of original names for a new channel and I wasn't sure what I wanted it to be. I experimented with a bunch of names that include 'Conor' in it. At the time I called all my friends my 'bros'. I decided to mesh my name with this word and created ConBro. I have no idea how people started calling me this, I think someone found my channel and started calling me ConBro and it just caught on. To this day, I still don the nickname ConBro, and although all my socials now say Conor Cayley, anyone who is close to me knows me well as ConBro, and will rarely call me Conor. They usually call me the ginger ninja.

Lil Weetbix's Bio

On the night of the April solar eclipse, a star was born. As if wished upon by a shooting star, the celestial superstar was born. A childhood filled with dramatic musicals performed in front of exhilarated crowds of loving fans prepared LIL WEETBIX for the skill and utter mastery of music needed to be part of a band. A band named Licence to Win. This name was shouted from every rooftop in Australia, all chanting LIL WEETBIX, LIL WEETBIX, LIL WEETBIX.

And then I woke up.

Matthew Kohler, was born in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, and was always involved in musicals and things to do with the arts. His family is a bunch of talented musos and has helped him immensely along the way to his musical prowess. He started his career with a solo rap career releasing three very popular songs, 'Dripping Ice', 'Champion', and 'Falling'. He is very excited to try out with a band and can't wait to see you all there.

As once said by the legendary LIL WEETBIX, "I’m a champion, best in the game, don’t ever forget it cuz I’m drowning in fame."

Check out this song from me, LIL WEETBIX, back in my solo rap career. I think it really inspired the type of music we as a band, License to Win, make and produce. Give it a listen and hopefully you dig it.

Cameron O'Connor Biography

  1. My name is Cameron O'Connor and ever since I was a young kid listening to artists like Michael Jackson to Andrea Bocelli I have been hooked on music. Ever since 2018 however, this is when my journey with playing music began. I started with playing classical piano under the guidance of a teacher who helped me start piano off without knowing the first thing about it. Flashforward to 2022, I have branched out to all different styles throughout my schooling education which has eventually led to me being invited to join Licence to Win.

  2. My advanced classical training has helped serve as a fantastic foundation. It has allowed me to pick up genres that Licence to Win focuses on like pop, rock, and indie to an easier degree and give this band a keyboard player ready to give the audience a performance they won't forget.

  3. Ever since I joined Licence to Win, we've been rehearsing for our new upcoming debut performance, at the Solbar, the epicenter of the Sunshine Coast music scene. Ready to give you an exciting set of music from retro to 2000's indie.
